Interview: Anaté

We enjoyed listening to your song “3am”. What is the story behind the song and how did you create/write it? Also, what inspired the song title?
First of all, thank you so much, glad to hear that! 😊 The chords of the song were born while I was jamming on a piano in an airport. They gave me blues vibes so we decided to go for that in terms of production. The lyrics were written in the middle of the night and the recording itself was a great experience. I was imagining an almost empty bar, at 3am (hence the name), dim-lit, and a girl singing the blues on the stage about a guy who might or might not be there in the audience. I tried to transpose that intimacy into the lyrics and the way I sang the song.

If you had to describe your sound, how would you do so? Furthermore, what artists (or other sources) do you cite as influences?
Generally downtempo, with influences from various genres such trip hop, jazz, blues… Some influences to mention are Morcheeba, Massive Attack, Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, Dido…

The song also has a music video featuring a live studio performance. What inspired this and what ideas went into it?
The covid period didn’t really allow us to perform live, so this seemed like a good compromise. It was a very nice experience to get the whole band together and to perform in the studio.

What have been career highlights so far? And what is on your bucket list that you’d want to achieve?
We’re just getting started so honestly everything that we experience seems to be like a highlight. Maybe the biggest highlight was releasing the first single and official video. It marked the first step onto this journey. Regarding what we have on our bucket list… probably having a single that hits the charts / that gets people to listen to it on repeat.

If you could be the main support for any living artist, who would that be for and why? Alternatively, what would be your dream live booking?
I like Glass Animals a lot!! Love the profound message of their songs, the lyrics, yet their fun image, their sound
Regarding dream live booking… don’t really have an answer for that. Let’s just get back to live shows first 😀

What artists have you been listening to? Additionally, who should others be listening to?
The artists/music that I listen to are influenced a lot by my mood / state of mind. For example, I’ve been listening a lot to old school hip hop lately 😀 On the top of my mind though, as a recommendation, I always tell people to listen to Thievery Corporation. It is like travelling the world, but musically. Awesome, awesome band.
