We enjoyed listening to your song “Teenager Summertime”. What is the story behind the song and how did you create/write it? Also, what inspired the song title?
Thank you so much ! We created the instrumental part of the song in a quite magical jam while rehearsing together with the band. It was one of those moments when one of us (Tom, the previous bass player) came with a great idea and the rest of us followed instantly! Valentin, the singer, wrote the lyrics after reading an article about a man who felt disoriented after spending like a decade in prison. He was not able to decide when to sleep, eat or take a shower for so long that he was completely lost once free. So the song is about that feeling and how old memories could help him to heal. The “teenager summertime” is the old memory. What is really cool about this song is that it resonates with people in very different ways. Now that we have a very beautiful video that goes with it, every one can have its own interpretation, the story we just explained is just one of those.
If you had to describe your sound, how would you do so? Furthermore, what artists (or other sources) do you cite as influences?
We are an alternative rock band that uses its indie rock culture as a base to mix it with our multiple other influences (rap, funk, electronic, R&B …) to create a fresher rock music.
This indie rock culture mainly represents the classic indie bands from the 2000’s such as Arctic Monkeys and The Strokes but also more recent and underground projects. To name a few there are bands like : DIIV, Beach Fossils, Fidlar, Wavves, Idles…
Finally, every member of the band listen to a lot of different genres of music. Again, to name a few big examples: Kanye West, Metallica, Kool & The Gang, Fishmans…
What inspired the video and what ideas did you have for it? Is there a message that you hope it delivers?
The video is the project of El-Hadji Kalidou, a great young French director and a friend of ours. We talked a lot with him about a few different concepts and we agreed on this idea of representing youth through this beautiful group of teenagers in a very artistic way. Then Kalidou came up with the whole concept of the different kind of frames and the testimonies in the introduction. We love this project and moreover we love the way it was received by people. It’s more an introspective experience than a message. We are all in the beginning of our 20’s in the band, therefore we are leaving the teenage years. So what about it? The video invites people to take a step back and to look at those years. We were very touched by the few feedbacks that we had the luck to receive from our friends.
What have been career highlights so far? And what is on your bucket list that you’d want to achieve?
Hopefully what he have done so far is just the beginning of the adventure. Therefore everything looks like a highlight for us. The biggest event for us has been the release of “Teenager Summertime”, it is a new start for us and it is our first music video. The other highlights were the recording of our EP and the shootings of our music videos and obviously every live show we had the luck to play.
We think the bucket list is very big now but our dream would be to grow an audience to share our art to and that would allow us to travel around the world by touring, also to play in a huge festival someday.
If you could be the main support for any living artist, who would that be for and why? Alternatively, what would be your dream live booking?
It would probably be Arctic Monkeys or The Strokes because they were legends for us. Another original idea would be to play in the most diverse live show ever because we love mixing genres. So why not something like this: we would start with Tinariwen to surprise everyone, then Parcels to make people dance a little, then we would bring the rock in the place, Travis Scott would be the headliner, the earthquake and we would have an hard core closing with Justice for the French Touch!
What artists have you been listening to? Additionally, who should others be listening to?
Valentin: Recently I’ve been obsessed with Lucio Dalla, an awesome Italian musician.
Bertrand: People have to discover our French Rapper Ninho!
Loan: I’ve been listening to a lot of Jill Scott lately.
Adam: The days are getting warmer, I can listen to Taeko Onuki again.
