We enjoyed listening to your song “Ordinary Life”. What is the story behind the song and how did you create/write it? Also, what inspired the song title?
Ordinary Life started off as a song about regrets. Feeling that we’ve not pushed or tried hard enough to achieve things and be ‘someone’ and that just continuing to day dream about success won’t bring it about. But the meaning changes to where what I really want is to be told that it’s ok to be ordinary and live an ‘ordinary life’ and you can still be loved for this. So it ends up being about acceptance. John wrote it as a little acoustic song without a chorus which he didn’t necessarily expect to be a band song, but a few days after it was wrote, John played it at our band room and Baz and Carl liked the feel of it. So we just started to jam as a band and then the whole thing was pretty much turned into a full band song there and then.
If you had to describe your sound, how would you do so? Furthermore, what artists (or other sources) do you cite as influences?
Our sound is maybe a bit grungy a bit indie and quite melodic. Ordinary Life is the first of our songs to have an acoustic guitar on it and this gives the song a gentler, warmer feel. But it still has the big drums bass and electric guitar of our other songs. Musically we are influenced by bands such as Pearl Jam, Weezer, Manic Street Preachers, Biffy Clyro.
What have been career highlights so far? And what is on your bucket list that you’d want to achieve?
Career highlights have been playing a few gigs at the o2 academy and also putting on our own headline gigs a couple of times which were in small venues but they were sell outs and felt really raw. We enjoy the DIY approach to things. Our last single ‘Fairytales‘ getting over 5000 listens on Spotify was a big moment too. We’ve never even had 500 listens to a song in the past.
If you could be the main support for any living artist, who would that be for and why? Alternatively, what would be your dream live booking?
We think supporting Queens of the Stoneage would be pretty amazing. Even if nobody listened or hurled bottles of piss at us it would still be great to hang out with those guys backstage.
Our dream lineup would be us, Bob Marley and the Wailers, Nirvana, the Beatles.
What artists have you been listening to? Additionally, who should others be listening to?
Between us as a band recently we have been listening to artists such as – Pink Floyd, Johnny Cash, The Pogues, Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds, Manchester Orchestra. People should checkout the new EP by Good Friend and we would encourage everyone to check out and support all local bands. There are many unknown gems out there!!
