Interview: Luna Blue

After first hearing Luna Blue’s music last year, we’ve had the pleasure of talking to the band’s lead guitar player, Ryan, about their latest single and their sound. Read all about it below.

Your song, “How Does It Feel”, is your first release this year. What is the story behind the song and how did you create/write it?  Also, what inspired the song title?
This song was actually written back in 2019!  (Luna Blue vocalist) Tom had an initial idea with a demo for the track, and it just went from there. Band members added their different parts, and we eventually came up with the track as it is today. There’s a lot of funk influences in this one.

If you had to describe your sound, how would you do so? Furthermore, what artists (or other sources) do you cite as influences?
I would describe our sound as a melting pot of; Don Broco, Two Door Cinema Club and Foals – with a bit of funk thrown in for good measure!

What have been career highlights so far?  And what is on your bucket list that you’d want to achieve?
For sure playing our orchestra gigs have been a big highlight; it’s awesome having so many people be involved in your project playing songs that you’ve written!  I would also say performing on BBC Introducing and playing several packed-out gigs.  One in particular is our sold out Brighton show which we played for the Tropical launch.

If you could be the main support for any living artist, who would that be for and why?  Alternatively, what would be your dream live booking?
Foals is a big one for us, as we’re all such massive fans.  I’d also love to play alongside Red Hot Chilli Peppers – that would be very scary though!

What artists have you been listening to? Additionally, who should others be listening to?
We all listen to a huge variety of different music and genres.  For me personally, I’ve really been getting into Friendly Fires ‘Inforescent’ album … maybe we will hear influences in future Luna Blue songs!  Of course, people should ALWAYS be listening to Luna Blue! – jokes aside, Alfie Templeman is an artist people should keep their eyes on for sure.
