We enjoyed listening to your song “Sailing”. What is the story behind the song and how did you create/write it? Also, what inspired the song title?
Glad you liked it! The context of the story is that one of my passions is kitesurfing, it’s kind of meditative to me, being in touch with nature, where I can let go of whatever is troubling my mind, similar to what I get through music, but in a different way.
So, during the lockdowns in Buenos Aires, I had just moved with my wife to a 1 bed apartment and suddenly we couldn’t leave, sports were “outlawed” including kitesurfing. This lasted for at least 6 months, and during that time, since I could not physically go down to the river and kitesurf, I went there emotionally and mentally through this song, so it was created with that purpose in mind, and with a yearning for the outdoors and connecting with nature that I’ve never experienced before, because we were never as deprived of that connection as we were at that time, it was really something.
If you had to describe your sound, how would you do so? Furthermore, what artists (or other sources) do you cite as influences?
So in that pandemic context, I was also out of my main job which is performing, so being tight with cash and everything, it was not possible to have a big production, so I embraced the context and decided to turn back to basics and go to my most simple and stripped down version.
That’s how I would describe it I guess, simple and natural /naked.
At that time I could not stop listening to Neil Halstead’s Mighty Engine, and Damien Jurado’s In the Shape of a Storm. Amazing artists and albums.
What inspired the video and what ideas did you have for it? Is there a message that you hope it delivers?
The video is not very conceptual, is just an image I guess, of the rhythmic pulse of the ocean, I like it, cause it reflects what the song is trying to express, it supports the concept and the message I guess.
I did it myself at my new home in Miami, it was not at all planned, the idea just came to me while I was enjoying a day at the beach.
What have been career highlights so far? And what is on your bucket list that you’d want to achieve?
I have had a couple of big sold out shows in Buenos Aires, presenting my album Dawn, with amazing musicians on stage with me, and taken my music to another level, that’s one big highlight I guess, being able to get the message through in such a powerful an immersive way, I loved it, so I hope to do more of that soon, as everything opens up. And the big impact the album has had on Spotify, with over 500,000 streams, completely overwhelmed me, I was not expecting those numbers when they started coming, I tend not to make a big deal out of it though, but seeing how hard it is to achieve, looking back I’m pretty amazed for sure.
I would love to collaborate with Damien Jurado, Neil Halstead, Alexi Murdoch, or Jack Johnson that’s one big dream that I hope to have the opportunity to achieve one day.
If you could be the main support for any living artist, who would that be for and why? Alternatively, what would be your dream live booking?
Jack Johnson probably, that’s kind of the vibe I’m most in tune with at the moment, and I think his audience would enjoy my songs, hopefully.
What artists have you been listening to? Additionally, who should others be listening to?
Hollow Coves and Sons of the East from Australia; Neil Halsted, Alexi Murdoch and Ben Howard from the UK; and Damien Jurado and Jack Johnson from the US. Those have been my go to artists lately.
