Interview: Blue Kubricks

You have just released your new song “Latin”. What is the story behind the song and how did you create/write it? Also, what inspired the song title?
I (Jim) wrote it back about 10 years ago when I was recording an album in Finland. Even though the album flopped this song always stayed with me as a tune. We decided to re hash it and add a bridge and now we have this. I cant remember what inspired it, just babble I think from a clueless 16 year old.

If you had to describe your sound, how would you do so? Furthermore, what artists (or other sources) do you cite as influences?
I think every band calls their sound unique so I think our sound is unique. ‘Latin‘ is more of a straight up rock song but our songs vary from this to piano songs, to calypso pop, to beach metal. For me as a songwriter I love the Beach Boys, and the Beatles and John Frusciante, Radiohead and Julian Berdegue.

What have been career highlights so far? And what is on your bucket list that you’d want to achieve?
Getting signed to Monomyth has been a dream. Its every bands ambition to get signed so that was great! We played at O2 Leeds Academy in the finals of a battle of the bands competition. Our next EP which has been written and will be recorded end of April, to me, even though its not recorded yet, is a career highlight.
Playing Later Live with Jools Holland.

If you could be the main support for any living artist, who would that be for and why? Alternatively, what would be your dream live booking?
Playing Verve bar with Take That would be the dream

What artists have you been listening to? Additionally, who should others be listening to?
I’ve been listening to Matilda Mann. She has a great song called ‘Paper Mache World‘ and the new Weezer album is great!
