Melodic-rock band, Freya and the Vikings, caught our attention with their fantastic debut single “Entertainment” that draws upon classic rock elements, including the use of the organ which, to us, brings to mind ’60s bands such as The Animals or heavier groups like Deep Purple, though deftly incorporate a modern rock sound to give them their own music identity.
Using a strong, driven drum beat and warm bassline, the rhythm is somewhat reminiscent of ACDC with the locked-in groove which provide a sold foundation on which the vocals then really take centre-stage: the confidence of the lead vocals and further bolstered by the backing vocals which contribute to a commanding sound that demonstrates how good modern rock can sound without being cliche: Freya and the Vikings achieve this well, giving music fans a gem of a song that is true to its classic rock roots whilst sounding modern and original. We’re already excited to see and hear what 2026 brings for the band!
