“If You Knew What I Was Thinking” by Saachisen

Mumbai-born, now London-based, artist Saachisen has captured our attention with her charismatic vocals, warm alt-pop sound, and textured songwriting exemplified by this superb song recorded at the famous Abbey Road Studios and released earlier this year.

Introduced via warm bass tones and a dry vocal timbre, this song leads the listener calmly towards the chorus where Saachisen’s vocals truly kick-in and demonstrate an impressive characterful singing style that has both power and range: this really takes the song up a few levels and delivers a memorable melodic hook that then consolidates the song’s place in any listeners heart. The pleasant string arrangement adds yet another catchy, and melodic, layer to the song and – in our opinion – recalls some pop artists such as Carly Rae Jepsen, albeit Saachisen has taken her style in a more alt-pop direction that still retains catchy pop elements, but is that bit more creative and different in style than more standard, commercial pop styles. We love the alternative emphasis and think that this is a wonderful song that countless other music fans will also enjoy.

Regarding the song, Saachisen explains: “In ‘If You Knew What I Was Thinking’ I wanted to capture the euphoria of falling for someone, but also the frustration of knowing you shouldn’t tell them. The melody, lyrics and arrangement were all crafted to reflect that battle between head and heart – particularly in the shift between the verses and choruses. This track is unusual for me because I actually wrote the strings parts first and built everything else up around them, as I loved the warm, joyful sound they brought to the song. I’m really excited to share this and launch it at my first ever overseas show at the Indian Embassy in Berlin on the week of release!”

Of course, the stunning painted artwork is highly colourful and also caught our eye: we really enjoy personal artwork styles like this as, we feel, they have much more personality than computer or AI-generated graphics.
