After being introduced to the song “Jean” by the Dublin-based duo, Victoria On The Grass, comprised of multi-instrumentalists Benedetta and Caterina, we were intrigued to learn more about their music. Consequently, they’ve kindly answered our questions – dive in to find out more about the duo and check out their music!
Hello. How has 2024 been for you?
C: 2024 has been quite a busy year for us, both personally and professionally, that brought to us a lot of achievements.
First of all we completed the production and recording sessions of all the songs that will be included in our first upcoming album. Actually, it’s been two years of sound explorations and rehearsals in the studio, it’s a lot of work and the release of our first single Jean was very important to us. Furthermore, we are now releasing the second single, Blur Picture, out on 20th December.
In your own words, how would you describe your sound and style?
C: It’s difficult to describe your own music. Maybe by doing a mashup of the various reviews we received, I think these words can really represent our style: electro-rock music, embracing a lush and immersive sonic landscape with an ethereal allure. Dreamy vibes, warm and yet a little aching too, a bittersweet sound.

Are there any artists or styles that you’d cite as particular influences on your own music?
B: We listen to many genres of music, of good music. Our influences vary a lot, and as we listen to different music all the time, you might be able to catch glimpses of influences from various genres in our songs. Among our favourite artists there are PJ Harvey, Garbage, Cocteau Twins, Wye Oak, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Bat For Lashes, Eurythmics, Anna Calvi and a hundred more.
We enjoyed your song “Jean” that you released earlier this year. Are there any meanings behind that song?
B: Behind “Jean” there are themes of vulnerability, self-discovery but also self-imprisonment, struggles and the complexities of the human psyche. It is about how sensibility mixed with fear and toxic environments can make you build a wall of protection around you that soon becomes your own cage… and at some point you realize that to free yourself you must leave that same cage you unconsciously built.
We understand that you have a new single out this month titled “Blur Picture”. What can you tell us about that song? Where did the title for the song come from?
B: “Blur Picture” captures a moment in life where everything is black and white, without shape, with no colours. You live in this blurry life, and the song is a picture of this life where you feel that only the presence, the arrival of someone else can take you out of it.
In just a few words, it is hope, a request of salvation, of help.
What have been highlights of your music/artist career so far and do you have any plans for 2025 that you would like to share with us?
C: After the release of our first EP in 2022 we went on tour in the UK and Ireland. It was a wonderful experience being able to visit some wonderful cities and venues thanks to music. We organized everything by ourselves and we went from city to city by train (we had a very minimal setup, so that helped). This has been for sure one of our biggest satisfactions so far.
Another highlight has been the release of “Jean” and the positive reception it has received from different countries. We hope this was just the beginning!
As we said, our new single, “Blur Picture”, is coming out on 20th December together with a music video, and for the next year we are planning to release our first album.
