In “Moon Boy”, Inès Damaris combines soft, sweet vocals with delicate guitar melodies to create a winning combination of textures and tones that result in this wonderful song.
Opened with a beautiful guitar harmonic, which are then tastefully interwoven throughout the song, Inès vocals make a spellbinding first impression and maintain the listener’s attention continually as her voice has a certain clarity, character, and timbre that consolidates and enhances the song in a way that truly elevates it.
In addition to the superb guitar work and vocal performance, Inès skilfully uses dynamics and layered instrumentation in ordered to build the song as it flows, adding a warm bass to the mix before the first minute; bringing in drums a touch later; and building the volume and intensity of the song towards the third quarter before allowing the song to then dissipate the energy and be replaced by a softer outro that mirrors the sentiment of the introduction. The superb production quality of this song and deftly-balanced mix then further complement the song.
Visually, this video is full of character that shows Inès’ sense of humour and fun: smiles to the camera, using flares on a beach, and impersonating Canute attempting to stop the tide all add to the charm of this song which then gives the feeling of Inès showing some of her own personality, thereby inviting the viewer to both enjoy the song as well as feeling as though they’ve gotten to know Inès to some extent too.
