Autumn has been and gone but it’s well-worth treating yourself to some nostalgia via this wonderfully warm, soothing, and wholesome song: “August/September” by Essex-based indie-folk duo Suntrap.
Soft acoustic guitar playing greets the listener with warm organic tones that include the natural sounds of sliding on the strings which further adds to the song’s charm by avoiding the temptation of being over-produced or too refined which then allows this wonderful song to retain a somewhat Earthy character that suits the video superbly well.
Gentle vocals sing sweetly whilst the lyrics feel heartfelt and authentic. Combined with the dulcet piano lines, this song is a bit reminiscent – to us – of songs like “Fires” by David Ramirez, albeit with a more British folk direction.
The duo of Mike and Harriet state that Suntrap’s origins were born out of a deep friendship and a shared love for music. We believe that the music and video both reflect this well; whether consciously or otherwise, Suntrap are evidently able to tap into an area of shared creativity that has resulted in a wonderfully-warm, rich, and comforting song that is guaranteed to soothe even the most tempestuous mind, thereby making this essential-listening for all music fans and especially those that attend events like Sofar Sounds.
This song had us hooked immediately: we’re sure that it will do the same for you and, furthermore, we’re hopeful for a growing discography from the duo in 2025.
