London-based, gothic-noir artist Freya Beer has released her first single of the year – “Love Child” – alongside an artistic music video that delivers a visually-engaging performance that further enhances Freya’s freshly-bold music.

Featuring a dark, moody guitar riff introduction, Freya wastes no time in pairing the music with the lyrics, quickly launching into a fabulous singing performance that demonstrates her powerful and rich vocals; this, alongside the slick pop-production, results in a song that is full of personality and allows it to stand out amongst other music releases. Musically, the song constantly grows, adding in a stringed arrangement towards the end of the song, thus keeping the listener engaged as new layers of instrumentation enter the mix and expand the song’s sonic vision. Ultimately, this artistic direction is fresh and, whilst not brand new, is definitely something special that marks Freya Beer as an artist to watch, especially as live music returns to the UK; we can only guess but we imagine that Freya’s live shows are particularly atmospheric and could give Kate Bush a retrospective run for her money.

“My new single ‘Love Child’ is an important release as it touches upon the subject of “gaslighting”. In comparison to my previous releases, this is not a love song. The lyrics speak from the experience of coming across individuals in life who undermine and try to claim your knowledge and creativity by opposing themselves as the victim in the situation they’ve caused. The subject of the song is something which I haven’t touched upon in my songwriting before but being able to share it on a wider platform and become a story which people can relate to is a way of telling my story.” – Freya Beer
